Italy trip from 2014!
The Italy trip was designed especially for families and students enrolled at StMES and Saint Michael’s Faculty, Staff, Board, and Alumni, and was led by Dr. K.M. Lucchese.

All transport, lodging, meals, & museum entries were included in the price. Participants paid extra only for cokes, ice cream, gifts, and wine!ITINERARY for StMES Trip to Italy: Rome & North, July 2014
Sun. 29 June: Arrive in Paris at 8:35 a.m., take AF flight 1504 from CDG to Rome Fiumicino at 9:45 a.m., arrive in Rome at 11:50 a.m., transfer to Tiburtina Station. Take bus to Siena. Check in and explore our neighborhood: the house of S. Catherine, Fontebranda, visit the Museo Civico (hopefully open ‘til 6 p.m.) & Duomo (Piccolomini Library). (SIENA: overnight)
Mon. 30 June: Day in Siena: Morning visit to Museo S. Maria della Scala, picnic lunch, then (INSIDER VISIT: the afternoon Prova for the Palio!) Break into groups for dinner. (SIENA: overnight)
Tues. 1 July: Early train to Firenze; settle into convent. Explore Oltrarno – Brancacci Chapel, S. Miniato ai Monti for overview of the city; descend to S. Croce. (FIRENZE: overnight)
Weds. 2 July: Early appt. @ Uffizi Galleries & passageway over Ponte Vecchio, then walk to Accademia. See Ognissanti & Straw Market. (FIRENZE: overnight)
Thurs. 3 July: Early train to VENEZIA, explore neighborhood, find the Ghetto, get to S. Giorgio Maggiore; Giudecca for dinner. (VENEZIA: overnight)
Fri. 4 July: “Secret Apartments” (INSIDER VISIT) appt. at Palazzo Ducale, then choices: Scuola di San Rocco or Accademia, or Biennale. Dine in groups. (VENEZIA: overnight)
Sat. 5 July: Take traghetto to Murano, Burano & Torcello, returning in late afternoon and dine together near the convent. (VENEZIA: overnight)
Sun. 6 July: Early train to Ravenna; drop bags @ hotel in Marina & return to town to visit S. Vitale, collect other mosaic spots, explore. Dinner @ Marina di Ravenna, stroll beach. (RAVENNA: overnight)
Mon. 7 July: Spend the day getting to ASSISI by way of BOLOGNA, FLORENCE & FOLIGNO. Explore neighborhood, beginning with the Porziuncula in the the nearby church of S. Maria degli Angeli. (ASSISI overnight)
Tues. 8 July: Whole day in Assisi: See the Abbey, have a picnic in the central piazza, climb up to the Castle. Dinner near the convent. (ASSISI: overnight)
Weds. 9 July: Early train to Rome. Settle in, go to Capitol, ascend Vittoriano Panorama. Visit Forum, picnic on the Palatine. See the Colosseum. Dinner at Angelino’s. (ROMA: overnight)
Thurs. 10 July: Train to Ostia Antica, spend all day, buy lunch there or bring picnic. Return in late afternoon, stroll to Protestant Cemetery, Circus Maximus, go to Tiber Island for gelato, Aventine for view. Dinner at Angelino’s. (ROMA: overnight)
Fri. 11 July: Early visit to the Vatican Museums: Sistine Chapel & Belvedere wing; after lunch in cafeteria, INSIDER VISIT to SCAVI under the basilica, after lunch), visit S. Pietro, walk to Castel Sant’Angelo, then gelato at Pantheon. Early dinner @ il Delfino; visit Piazza Navona. (ROMA: overnight)
Sat. 12 July: Morning free for shopping, optional visits. Meet @ Piazza del Popolo for pizza lunch, stroll Villa Borghese, Spanish Steps, throw coins in Fontana di Trevi. Home to pack, then dinner @ Angelino’s. (ROMA: overnight)
Sun. 13 July: Taxis to airport: leave Rome Fiumicino on 7:10 a.m. Air France flight 1005 for Paris CDG, arrive in Paris 9:20 a.m., then fly at 10:30 a.m., then catch AF 636 from CDG to Houston Intercontinental; Arrive in HOUSTON at 1:55 p.m., start being Rome-sick.
